A vist to Tawa Montessori Preschool
The Education Review Office, commonly known as ERO, is a government department which evaluates the quality of education in New Zealand. It carries out regularly education reviews on all licensed early childhood centres. The review focuses on how our preschool is contributing to children’s learning and development. They visit our preschool, spend time in our classroom and talk to our teachers, our children, and our parents. They gather a whole lot of information and documentation about our preschool. We embrace their visits as an opportunity to share with them our unique preschool. We are excited to see how much they learn about our preschool and how they enjoy their time at Tawa Montessori Preschool.
ERO’s latest feedback is high praise of all the systems and practices we have in place in our preschool. They commented on the high quality of education we provide, affirming our programme “integrates successfully early literacy and mathematical concepts and skills”. One of the highlights is how we integrate te reo me nga tikanga Maori throughout the environment and interactions.
The ERO team observed our “high quality outdoor environment” which effectively fosters our children’s exploration and well-being. We are proud of our “aesthetically pleasing, well-organised spaces” where a “calm and purposeful atmosphere is evident”.
During their visit the reviewers saw how we foster our children’s natural love of learning and help them build their wisdom. They observed our teachers as ”being highly attuned to children’s feelings and interests’ and noticed how our teachers support our children’s learning through “warm, responsive and respectful interactions”.
We are particularly proud of our community of “confident learners” who welcomed them into their preschool, served them refreshments, and guided them around, as young as they are.
After visiting our preschool, the review team could see the outcome of our environmental journey with our practices for sustainability embedded within our programme. They could see that Tawa Montessori Preschool is a remarkable community, where “teachers and children continue to demonstrate mutual respect for one another and maintain a peaceful, positive and cooperative learning environment”. We truly are remarkable!
